At last minute I decided we needed a beach break, and found an inexpensive hotel directly overlooking the beach in Kiama Cove. It was idyllic. It takes about an hour and a half to drive there from where we currently live, and although we’ve definitely done that as a day trip, it felt like we needed more time. So, we headed up Saturday afternoon, checked in at 1pm, walked our wagon to the beach, and set up our beach tent and loveseat camping chair. Our friends Vicky, Chris and Jake joined us and we all had a great time. There was a nearby awesome covered playground that the boys enjoyed playing on when we weren’t building sand castles, playing with the soccer ball on the beach, or just hanging out. We stayed there until about dusk then retreated back to our room.
After a quick bite out, they headed back home, and we settled in for the night. It was lovely to hear the ocean all night long. It’s been ages since I’ve spent the night right on the ocean like that. It’s so calming, and soothing, exactly what we all needed.
The next morning we had a cup of tea on the balcony and noticed tons of people out walking, biking, exercising, running, and overall being very active. Even saw a few surfers going for it, and some swimmers in the cove! Naturally we had to check it out. I went in for a brisk dip while Abe and David played on the playground. By time we checked out at 10a, we had already gotten into the laid back lifestyle of Kiama, and set up our tent again, this time with a pillow for resting and a Doona cover for extra comfort. What a wonderful relaxing day! We all dug out a big hole to make a pool when the water came up so Abe could play safely in the water. He is very cautious around the water thankfully, so this is a nice compromise for all of us. David ventured out for some lunch, and we stayed until about 3pm when high tide was coming in and got our tent wet!
